On March 17th our little garden club decided to plant wheat grass for cute little Easter decorations.
I chose a couple of small silver dishes I never use and lined them with aluminum foil.
Next we poured some nice Miracle Grow potting soil in each container.
You really need to cover the soil with a solid layer of wheat grass seeds. I believe you can buy them in health food stores. Some in my group said they had used rye seeds before and you can find these at your local hardware stores.
I tried to sprinkle the seeds lightly with a bit of soil to cover them, however, some said that it wasn't necessary.
After planting, water daily and put near a sunny window. It won't be long until you see a wonderful metamorphosis.....

Here's a little silver pail I had bought at Target last year and was so happy to have used as a planter because you can see the roots!

Don't you just love wheat grass. I usually have mine planted this time of year (in stages) but with everything going on right now - the seeds are still in the package. sigh! I use a large white platter for my Easter dinner centerpiece. I trim down the tops so they are not so tall, and "hide" dyed Easter eggs. I really, really love the pail and how u can see the roots. Hi Rose,I went out and bought the wheat already this morning.I came back here to look at your containers you put yours in.It looks like they don't have to be in anything too deep.I saw some pretty silver(looked like silver) at the thrift store today but they were only about an inch deep,would that work?

oh Rose, this is just way too awesome, i must try this and i already have a 4 inch deep silver pot, would that work? and how deep would the dirt have to be in a pot that high.? Im so excited to try this, thanks for sharing such a wonderful idea.

Oh, Rose, this is absolutely beautiful! How long did it take to germinate and get so lush? My mother is coming for a week-long visit, and this would be something she'd love to watch every day.

I found your site through Twirl and Taste's blog. I am a Santa Collector and think yours are beautiful. I only collect the old fashioned looking guys. Not the Coca Cola or department store type. I tole paint and have painted several Santas. My favorite is on my blog under the Tole Painting label. Do you have a catalogue of your work?
