*From little princess to vintage chic *

Another Met Monday is upon us. Will we ever run out of transformations? I hope not. It's so fun to see creative ways to make something old, NeW Again .

So my two little princesses are now adults. What do I do with their little cream and gold bedroom sets?

They all shouted, SELL THEM !

Did I listen? Mmmmm...you must not know me too well, if you think I did.

These are some of the few reminders of their childhood.

It's hard to let go... I sooo wish that they were 4 and 7 again.

Those were the good ole days of slumber parties, princess costumes and purple and pink bikes with training wheels and streamers.

Funny how a piece of furniture can hold so many memories.

SO..... to answer the rhetorical question that I asked , " Heck... NO !"

I could not let them go because, even though my girls are grown and blooming beautifully, these pieces stand guard in their bedrooms and stop the clock for me..... a proof that I had these two adorable little princesses at home with me.

But to get back to reality... time does not stand still and sometimes we have to change with the times.

What to do with these little time capsules to make them more "grown up"?

Is there anything easier and cheaper than paint for a dramatic transformation? Me thinks not.

I used regular white paint on the dresser, but spray pained the drawers black.

I spray painted the knobs and hardware white...

Here's a peek at the finished chest of drawers along side of a previous Met Monday post.. .. The pitiful dining room chair from the thrift shop.

So now I can go into my daughter's room and peek into the past, but with a new eye, fresh and "all grown up".

Be sure to come back next week when I share this fun room and show you how it came together.

Between Naps on the Porch sponsors this wonderful event every Monday!

  1. That is amazing!! I have very similar French Provincial furniture that was actually mine and then passed down to my girls, that I want to do something with. This inspires me to get out the paint and redo the furniture for our guest room. I love the way yours turned out and it looks great with your chair. Can't wait to see the finished room.
    Love & blessings from NC!

  7. This is such a fresh and updated look. My question for you is, do your daughters want them back now?
I think if the person that gave up that chair might be kicking themself if they saw what that chair looks like now.

  16. This post hits so close to home for me. My two have also left the nest.

Like you, I'm in the process of re-doing my daughter's room but am unable to get rid of her furniture. It still makes me feel like she lives here when I'm at least able to look at the furniture!

Your re-do turned out great! Since I started blogging, black spray paint has become my new best friend. I'm always on the lookout for something I can paint black!

  30. I have a set of French Provincial bedroom furniture that was mine. When we redid my younger daughter's bedroom, we decided to use that furniture and I thought she would want it repainted. To my surprise, she said it was very "Audrey Hepburn" and wanted it as it was! I love the new look you gave yours! SO chic!!! Thanks for the inspiration for after DD goes off to college! :D Jewel

  43. Holy cow...that transformation was absolutely amazing!!!

My sister and I shared a very similar french provincial bedroom set. By the early 90's we absolutely could not stand it, but I don't think that my mother ever even considered repainting it!

Instead...we gave it away to a family in need. At first, I was heartbroken (even though I no longer cared for the look), but after visiting the family and seeing the joy that it brought to this little 5-year old girl, my sorrow quickly turned to joy! It brought back so many warm memories of when my sister and I got the bedroom set...a major investment for my parents at that time!

I can't wait to send my sister your way so that she can see this truly amazing transformation.
