A rainy day project...

I've always loved decorating magazines and have had a difficult time parting with them, but after a while piles in every closet start taking up too much space. For the last couple of years I've been ripping out the pages that I love and putting them in a file folder.

The only problem with that, is that it's a mess trying to flip through the pages...

"Lucky" for me, this weekend was rainy, cold and gray... no movies I wanted to see, nothing I wanted to shop for ( I know, how strange is that?)... so I took out my trusty decorating ideas folder to see if I could get inspired.

I've always considered myself a disorganized mess. I hear creative people are seldom neat, and I will happily categorize accordingly, but I was not inspired looking at the ripped pages all over the place.
Remember, organizing is not my "thing".... so this was a big step for me.

I got out my paper cutter that I bought to do creative memories and snipped off all of the ragged edges.

Then the hole puncher came out of hiding ....

Oh, what a lovely way to spend a Sunday....

I found that I had Holiday pages as well as ideas for centerpieces and such, so I took out some of my kids' notebook dividers to keep those sorted out.

Isn't this a pretty arrangement? Wow, it looks like I chewed that page off!

Oh, much better now...

A nice arrangement for Christmas or Valentine's Day.....

This one is filed under Holiday....

.... and there you have it peeps: My feeble attempt at organizing my frazzled pile of decorating inspiration...

Now I better go make myself a cup of coffee so I can relax with my new favorite "book".

I hope this "counts" as a metamorphosis..

BEFORE:
AFTER:Susan would love to see you at Between Naps on the Porch for some great transformations!

For someone who is organized challenged, this sure came off as one fine project!! I was able to do something similiar when I bought a bunch of sleeve savers at the thrift store for pennies. I also have a "Decorating Diary" I made for my home which is listed room-by-room, with paint chips, fabric samples, etc. Its great to take when you go shopping. (which you never do I'm sure) LOL
Thanks for sharing!

Oh what a great accomplishment that was! Well done!

This is a wonderful idea, Rose! I used to do something very similar, but am years behind. I need to get busy. I have some pages I've saved from way back in the 90s. They're not my style, too froo frooey, but I still love 'em.
Be a sweetie,

Good job! I spent a weekend organizing recipes from magazines and computer printouts that way, placing them in page protectors so they would remain clean and dry when in use in the kitchen.

Hi Rose...why is it so hard to part with our magazines? I've got a stack of 60 plus staring at me as I type this...you have inspired me to get organized...or at least to think about it! ;-) Bo

What a fabulous idea. I usually wind up throwing away all the magazines and then I can never remember what I saw that so inspired me. I will definitely have to adopt this as a way to remember all those wonderful projects that I hope to do one day. I love it. Hugs, Marty

Indeedy it counts! I have been doing the same thing with recipes that have been clipped or downloaded. Now I am inspired to do the same thing with the dec clips.

P.S. I think ring-binder notebooks are the greatest organizers ever invented.

Rose, When did you look in my closet? I know you've been in my closet because I have those stacks of magazines where shoes are supposed to be! LOL I did something similar once before but never this organized...this is a great idea! Susan
P.S. Thanks for those sweet words about my bedroom MM post! :-)

Excellent idea, Rose! NOw, did you think to put the magazine pages in those nice plastic sleeves so that they won't rip and get crinkled? I bet you didn't!

Justine :o )

nikkicrumpet said...

Very smart! I too am a page tearer...then they get piled up in a folder and usually never looked at again. I don't know why I bother. Thanks for the idea...even I think I can pull this one off. But I'll have to use regular scissors because I don't have one of those groovy machines!

Hi there, OH I soooo agree with you that a book of clippings we have saved over time because of something in the article that inspired us is the absolute BEST decorating book of all!!! I have one almost just like yours, I put the pages in those clear plastic sleeves to make it easier to flip through without tearing the pages. GOOD FOR YOU!!!

*** FIRST, CONGRATS on D-O-I-N-G THIS!!! How I envy your organization here and ensuing "end results"!!! (Oh, you are "tooooo gooood"!!!). SECONDLY, and embarrassingly enough, "if I had a dime" for every time I'd STARTED to do this, I could bail out at least ONE bank~~~ heck, MAYBE two!!! (Grins!)~~~My HEART'S always willing, and I "start"... and THENNNNN I get SIDE-TRACKED... does that happen to anyone ELSE????...... KUDOS to you, kiddo~~~ (BTW ~Would you like to come spend the weekend at our home here in the desert? All guests get pampered! If so, just pleeease, bring your "organizational supplies", ok??? Chuckles n' thanks, Linda

Hey Rose....great minds think alike...I can't tell you how many Sundays I have sat on my bed and organized recipes from magazines and decorating idea...I must have a half dozen notebooks chock full of wonderful ideas I will probably never use....It just makes you feel so good to trim and punch holes and file...I love it!! Sue.

Rose, I definitely thinks this counts as a Meta Monday post! Love it! I did this a few years back myself and slid each page in one of those plastic sleeves, this way they stay clean too. The only thing is that those darn sleeves are very expensive. Totally love your new book! You'll enjoy looking at this over and over again! ;) ~CC Catherine

Rose, what a great idea! Oh, I badly need to do this. All of my torn pages are thrown into a cardboard box, which I haven't gone through since we remodeled almost 6 yrs ago. (I might have to iron my pages before I can put them into a notebook though). laurie

Thanks so much for stopping by my MM Bdrm and your very gracious comments. I really appreciate it. Hugs, Marty

How funny is that! I too have the magazine fettish! My "honey" swears that end of the house is going to break off due to the weight of the magazines. The piles slide... you can't remember where you saw what... yet, I have torn (chewed) the pages out of many & have the same look you had going. I use the same idea of the notebook for blog ideas/articles/tutorials etc... so you are a genious, of course use it for the torn out magazine pages (although I don't tear out as many as I should)! Thanks! Yes, this counts as a Met.
