I Got My 15 Minutes of Fame, BUT...nobody told me!

Last week I was bored one night and decided to Goggle santamaker...

I expected to see some of my old posts, which I have, in the past, but to my surprise I saw a link with a picture of the hutch in my porch to the HGTV website in a feature on porches!

Okay, that was flattering, (I used to post on RMS a couple of years ago and I understand that once you press the "agree"button when you are downloading your photos on to their site, your pictures and ideas belong to them), but it would have been nice of them to email me and let me know ! I have no idea when it was "published", just glad I had my 15 minutes of fame!

So here is the "article":

Decorating Patios, Porches and Decks: Make the Most of What You Have

See inspired ways for creating or transforming an outdoor room without spending a dime.

You can push the boundaries of design in an outdoor space. Think about existing furniture in a new way. Rate My Space user santamaker converted an old hutch into a plant stand, using garage-sale silverware as a whimsical accent.

So, how is this a Metamorphosis post, you might ask?
Because this hutch has seen many faces...

I could not find a picture of it in it's original state, when we first bought it, circa 1980.... It was "blond" with some stencilling on it. It was our first major furniture purchase as a married couple and it was part of a dining room set. We still have the oak table and use it in the kitchen.

When we moved to Chattanooga in 2000, I wanted to paint some parts of it white to go with my kitchen. (Notice I had already started my love affair with blue and white.)

When we moved into a house in Columbia, S.C. in which there was no room for it in the kitchen, so I transformed it to my crafting hutch and painted it all a solid white and got silver knobs for it. It looked nice in my craft room, because I had white cabinets and everything looked cohesive. This is the only picture I have of it in this stage, you can barely see it on the far left side (profile of it).

Then we moved here and I decided to put it in the back porch, but it didn't look right stark white, so I "distressed and antiqued" it.

Got some rusty fleur de lis knobs...

Found these fun spoon and fork cabinet pulls at a garage sale:

Here it is as in the "article"... I emptied the drawers of my junque and used the drawers as planters for pretty flowers in the spring.

Here is what it looks like today:

This old gal has seen lots of days, but she keeps changing with me and my homes...

I guess we all have to take a lesson from my old hutch...(bloom where you're planted). This is a fun piece to play with.... I love to change it up all the time.

Enjoy a lot more transformation's over at Susan's place....BNOTP for Met. Monday!

You really have done a lot of imaginative things with this cabinet and I love them all. The use of the drawers as planters is very clever. And I applaud you on your 15 minutes of fame {It should have been longer!}. What a lovely cabinet!!

Wow! I can't believe I am friends with a famous person;)! I am so excited!

I don't blame HGTV for stealing your darling cabinet for their site...It is just wonderful! I like it in all of it's previous lives...but it is pure perfection now! I adore the way you planted the drawers and the way you have it staged is gorgeous!

Do you think you'll change it again;)?

Enjoy!

I love everything about your porch and remember saving it in my favorites on rms. Hgtv put my sunroom in one of those articles, too and did not tell me. Another rmser told me about it. They really should let you know about it I think.

How funny was that to find yourself on hgtv's site??!! I found pix of myself taken last year at the press day viewing of the SF Design showhouse posted on House Beautiful's site. Bet you did a double take like I did when you saw your hutch on the site!

My favorite is the drawers open with the flowers inside. What a great piece of furniture. And cool radio too btw!

Come by and see what Allison found antique shopping!

How sad you weren't notified they were using your photos. You would think that it would'nt be to hard for them to find and notify you. Oh well, it is a gorgeous photo w/the flowers, so I can see why they would want to use it. Great inspiration! I like how you have it now also. Very pretty and nice history. Your hutch has seen alot of changes!

This hutch is one of my favorites! I have admired it on your blog before and probably coveted it! The buttermilk color and the distressing is so pretty and the dishes contrasting colors just make sigh...how gorgeous! Your porch looks like a place I would love to spend some time. The silverware drawer pulls are great too! I can see why HGTV chose to feature you! Glad you found out that your hutch is famous!!

That must have been weird to see that on HGTV. I'm so gald I left RMS. I tried it a couple of times a few months ago and got all of the rude comments again. I'll never go back again. Your hutch is so great. You've accessorized it perfectly. I could learn a few thing by looking at it.
PS~I wish you were still in Cola.

Hello Rose, I just love what you have done with your hutch. I think it looks so much nicer destressed than it looked when it was once white. So cute how you used the drawers for planters, it all looks so stunning! I too had my 15 minutes of fame when a few of my winter crafts were featured online at Better Homes and Gardens the year before last. It's exciting, yay for you! I hope you have a wonderful day!

How wonderful! Yes, it would have been nice! lol I google my site, a few months ago, and wow I found myself on many websites, with my photos. Not the fame you have! I adore this hutch, she has had many faces, but the last move she went to she is at her most loveliest! I adore it! Oh, and there is your wonderful chair sitting beside it, that I just fell in love with! Love both of these pieces!
